New RC33-based Images from JesusFreke
The images are identical to JF1.41-RC30, only they are based off the PLAT-RC33 release instead. You also need the radio image update, and – surprise – you’ll find them both below :)
Lots has already been said about the rc33 release in general, so head on over there (or to any of a million other sites) to find out what else is new. :)

FYI: I had to wipe my user data to get Latitude and Voice Search to work. Your mileage may differ.

Ok, I give up… how does one install/upgrade to this image? I’ve got Fastboot working on a ADP1 with the shipping image. So what the steps I should follow?

Just copy the file to the micro SD card, first the radio zip file, then rename it to update.zip boot holding the HOME key, press ALT+L then ALT+S. Then HOME+BACK to reboot. Let it flash the radio firmware.
Copy the JFv1.41_RC33.zip to the micro SD card. Rename it to update.zip, reboot again holding the HOME key, press ALT+L then ALT+S. If you want to wipe your user data press ALT+W then HOME+BACK to reboot again.

Not sure what I’m doing wrong, but I can’t get the JFv1.41_RC33 to load. I’ve tried about a dozen times and it keeps reading “Can’t open /sdcard/update.zip”. Any help would be appreciated

I currently run the latest JesusFreke firmware based on the ADP1.1 image on my ADP. Does it make sense for me to upgrade to this new image?
Will a downgrade to ADP1.1 or following releases be possible (I assume so?) even if I update the radio firmware?
How does RC33 play along with networks not being T-Mobile’s`?
Cheers
Morten

hey
I just installed the modded RC33 few minutes ago.
The truth is it just look exactly like the original one except for the root feature
No auto rotation or multi touch zoom!!
could it be because I used an old flash file? the one that came with the modded RC30

I’m from the UK does it matter if I download the RC33 image?
Also someone mentioned losing multitouch? It thought the image was the same as 1.41 but with RC33 added in?

@aman – old flash file? you need this file. it has mt, etc.
and I installed it over an adp1.1 jf image with no issues (except latitude isn’t working. voice search works fine. so.. i’ll work on it.)

@will
you can’t install a g1 without a mod. You need root access with means you have to go back all the way to RC29 first.

I flashed the image but now I’m stuck at the “Welcome to T-Mobile G1″ screen. When I touch the screen it brightens, but I can’t get past this. Anyone else seeing this or have an idea of how to fix it?

@Patrick
Wipe your user data press ALT+W then ALT+L then ALT+S to start the update. ALT+W will help you get around the flashing android screen hanging

I have a default ADP, no updates, and this sequence:
1.rename radio file to update.zip
2. copy to SD card (top dir)
3. hold down HOME key and then press ALT+L then ALT+S.
4. Then HOME+BACK to reboot.
Does nothing. What am I doing wrong?

Ok, I found out why I couldn’t load the update package, I didn’t have the right sequence. It is:
1. Rename file that you would like to update to “update.zip”
2. Copy to SD card. Make sure you unmount from your PC so it’ll copy completely over.
3. Turn off G1
5. Power back on holding down END_CALL+Home+Back keys. You’ll have to hold it down until it responds.
6. When icon screen appears, Hold down Alt-L. You will get a list of operations to perform.
7. Hold down Alt-S to load update. This will take a minute. A list of operations will be shown. WAIT until it says to Press Home+Back to reboot.
8. After loading, Hold down Home+Back keys. It’ll reboot a couple of times.
That should be it.

I have an unmodded rc30.
Is it truely as easy as brainflakes says to load this version? If there is other steps I need to go thru, can someone post them. I have updated roms for wm and can unlock/jailbrake an iphone. But this will be my first attempt at modding my android phone. And as such, don’t want to leave my phone in a 1/2 lb paper weight form when I am finished. I have read lots of formulas on how to do this. But all previous include using something from the market. That is except brainflakes above post. If I need to use the emulator, do I use it before or after. I wish someone would make an idiots/noobish guide to getting root rc33.
Thanks in advance!

Ok, I have been searching with no results, but I want to roll back my RC33 to RC29 to start the methodical JF builds and get root. Is this as easy as flashing it with an old build, like flashing it with RC29? Or is there a separate process for rolling back?

I did everything to spec and it all works great except I’ve lost the ability to telnet to my phone, or run any terminal commands after updating to the RC33 on this website. I do however have superuser whitelist, multitouch, and auto rotate. So thanks!
Anyone who is having problems with the auto rotate go to the settings in your browser and dig around in there. I had to turn auto rotate on for it to work.

same, I can multitouch, auto rotate, all that good stuff, but i think i lost ‘root’, cant telnet to localhost etc. Is this normal or do i need to do something to fix it? sorry this is my first time messing with my firmware on this particular phone.

Doh, after doing a little more research, and playing with it a bit, everything is working just fine. The problem is that the superuser whitelist doesnt update immediately when a app requests to run as root, it requires a restart to reflect the changes. It works after all! I also forgot that post RC29, you cannot telnet into root (yes im dumb).

when it says no such file or directory its because u named the file “update.zip” like told to do. you need to remane the file to “update” its already has the .zip at the end

I got root and updated to JF-RC33, but I forgot to do the radio update before I booted in RC33. I can use multi-touch and autorotate. I can also make phone calls. So do I have to use radio update or am I ok where I am?

hi, i have a quick question hopefully someone can answer for me. When i installed the radio update following the instructions listed above it said something about missing signature after i pressed alt s, then verification failed followed by installation aborted or something like that. is that normal or any idea what went wrong?
