Cupcake SDK Finally Beta’d!

Posted on April 13th, 2009 in Android News by Disconnect  Tagged , , , , , , ,

According to the Android Developer Blog, you can now get an official prerelease of the Android 1.5 SDK. Just grab a download below the fold and give it a go! (Maybe this is the start of an open development process..? Or, more likely, they’re offering up betas finally. The good news is, it did come out – barely – ahead of the device release.)

Give it a try, post comments about how it works :)

Compiling Your Own G1 Kernel Modules

Posted on December 6th, 2008 in Android Hacking by Disconnect  Tagged , , ,

I promised to talk about building the tethering binaries instead of using mine, so here you go. Most of it is built as part of the Android source build (and all of it comes from the upstream Android sources) so I’m just going to cover the more general case of building kernel modules for the G1.

Update on Bluetooth Speeds (Tethering, Headsets, etc)

I just got the official word (from SanMehat in #android – thanks!) that the tethering speed problem (80k/sec or, coincidentally, 115200) requires an upstream fix (in-progress). The current driver is only capable of the basic 115200 speed. However, to quote SanMehat:

“we have a new driver for the High speed UART but its not quite ready yet”

(Battery life problems, among others..)

Quick Update: PAN + DHCP Accomplished

Just a quick note to let everyone know that I got automagic PAN + dhcp tethering working. The patches are in Gerrit. (3123 and 4834). Build it at home or look for it in JF’s next RC30 patch. (Later today I’ll probably try the MBP over 3g, just for S&G.)

So you probably heard about Tetherbot for using USB and a socks proxy to “tether” your G1.  Thats all well and good.. but if you have root, now there is a much better way.
